A Day Out in Suffolk

LONG LAzY BEACH DAYS, VICTORIAN SEASIDE TOWNS, HEATHER-COVERED HEATHLAND, AND PEACEFUL RIVER WALKS.

SUFFOLK IS FULL OF LOVELY PLACES TO EXPLORE AND CREATIVE THINGS TO DO. HERE ARE A FEW OF OUR FAVOURITE WAYS - BOTH ON THE DOORSTEP, AND A LITTLE FURTHER AFIELD - TO SPEND A FEW HOURS OR A WHOLE DAY.

Orford

Start the day with a stroll to Pump St for bread, pastries, and coffee.

Spot pretty cottages on a circular walk around the village and down to the quay with its faded black clad huts. Visit the Pinney’s deli to stock up on goodies for later.

Take a walk along the river wall and enjoy a simple seafood lunch at Butley Orford Oysterage.

Spend the afternoon exploring the 12th-century Orford Castle. Take a boat trip along the creek on the Lady Florence or across to the RSPB reserve at Orford Ness.

Southwold

Pack a picnic and take a short drive up the coast to Southwold.

Pick a spot among the sand dunes. Laze in the sun, play in the sand or swim in the sea.

Take the short ferry across the river to Walberswick and try your hand at crabbing.

Wander the town and stop for gelato at Harris & James. Or take in a tour of the famous Adnams brewery and gin distillery.

Snape and Iken

While away a few hours at the famous Snape Maltings concert hall. Potter the independent shops, wander the galleries, and enjoy views of the reed beds and river from the café.

If you have enough time, take the peaceful river walk through the reed beds and along the boardwalk to Iken cliffs.

Woodbridge

Explore this busy little market town just a 15-minute drive from Orford. Take a gentle stroll along the River Deben and visit the working Tide Mill. Wander the High St and Market Hill full of independent shops like Vanil and New Street Market for Scandi-inspired interiors.

Refuel with coffee and cake or brunch at Honey and Harvey.

Aldeburgh

Wander the boutique shops and art galleries along the High St. Walk along between the shingle beach and the pastel-coloured cottages and holiday houses that line the seafront. Up to the imposing Scallop sculpture to read Britten’s inspiring words against a backdrop of the Suffolk sky.

Take a tour of the Fisher’s Gin distillery that sits right on the seafront overlooking the iconic pebble beach. And join the queue for famously good fish & chips.

SPEND A FEW HOURS…

Wandering the beautiful flower fields at the Southwold Flower Company. PYO bunch to take home or learn how to create stunning flower displays with regular workshops.

Learning the art of the perfect sourdough with bread making workshops and classes at the Two Magpies Bakery School in Darsham.

Getting creative with clay with a pottery lesson at the Bluebird Pottery Shed in Sudbourne.

Tasting the very best of British produced wine with tours of the Flint Vineyard, followed by lunch with a view.
